Holistic Counselling
I work with both youth and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, life transitions, grief, and relationship difficulties. Counselling together may involve:
Supporting you in processing experience
Exploring how different pieces of your life are interacting and impacting you
Clarifying the direction you wish to move towards
Building skills to take steps towards your intended direction
Learning about the body as a resource
Increasing awareness of the mind and how to work with challenging thoughts
Youth Counselling
I work with youth the same way that I do with adults - using a holistic approach to support what is most meaningful to you at the time. Sessions typically involve working with youth to explore their current experience, with some skill building sprinkled in! Our work together often includes:
Support and guidance for experiences at school, family, friendships, transitioning to young adulthood
Nonjudgmental listening
Learning about mindfulness and the body as a resource
Emotional regulation skills and soothing the nervous system
Exploring interpersonal dynamics and improving on building relationships and communication skills
Guidance on building new habits and decreasing unwanted ones
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a form of therapy used to address trauma, attachment challenges and unresolved emotions. While SP does involve some talking, there is an emphasis on using mindfulness with the body to contact our inner experience, process, transform and integrate. Trauma work with SP focuses on:
Establishing safety and stabilization
Education on the impacts of trauma
Understanding how this may be impacting you in your life
Regulating the nervous system and building a repertoire of resources
